Police Memorials

Paul is remembered on the Police Memorial Trust , being on the Roll of Honour of Police Officers who have died on Police Duty

Since Paul’s death Ella and I attended two Police Services of Remembrance for those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Our first was on 28th July 2017.  This was the COPS (Care of Police Survivors charity) Annual Service of Remembrance, held at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.  As Paul is on the 2017 Roll his name was read during the service. It was a beautiful, incredibly emotional service with musical pieces and readings. After the service, everyone was given a rose which was taken with our own tribute flowers to our Force Tree on “The Beat”.  The event was also attended by The Blue Knights and The Police Unity Tour, who raise funds for COPS.

We also attended National Police Memorial Day on 24th September 2017.   This year it was held in Cardiff, where Paul proudly policed the 2014 NATO Wales Summit less than a year before his fatal crash of 2015.  It was a long drive from our home, but Ella wanted to be there in memory of her dad.  Paul’s name was read during the service, along with those who had died during the past 12 months. Petals were then released from the gallery in remembrance of all of the lives that have been lost.  The service included prayers,  hymns, readings, the lighting of candles for each country within the United Kingdom and the Police Band. Another wonderful service that was poignant.  We had the pleasure of meeting the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, following the service.
